George Lucas and Star Wars

Star Wars is definitely considered by many as one of the greatest movie series in the world. Countless spin-offs, and stories have been made in homage to Star Wars, because it had such a huge impact on the cultural film industry. This blog will be an in-depth focus on who George Lucas was, as well as the facts and history of Star Wars.

So George Lucas was born in a small time station, where he had a fond interest in adventure stories and comic books. George was immediately interested in filmmaking while in high school, so we decided to get a bachelor's degree. While getting his degree at the University of Southern California, he was deeply inspired by the Japanese director Kurosawa Akira, and he would later influence his work. Lucas's would start to get recognized when he made several highly regarded student films including, the parable Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB, the link to that video can be found below. His success led him to his job at Warner Brother- Seven Arts, and then later he formed the production company, Lucas films. George Lucas was finally able to finance the project, Star wars, despite the fact that the Science Fiction genre had not been popular in the past. The first-Star Wars movie he produced immediately became the top-grossing motion picture in history and had eventually spawned a whole new genre of other science fiction film using similar techniques and technologies as Star Wars. Star Wars: A New Hope went on to earn 461 million dollars in the US, and was even popular overseas, making about 314 million, totaling 775 million dollars.

  1. I really enjoyed reading about the director/producer of one of the classics. Did Reagan's idea for "star wars" or this movie have any influence on each other? To me, it doesn't seem like a coincidence,

  2. Interesting read shay! It is a nice change reading a blog that isn't about politics or economics. I also enjoyed reading about Steven Spielberg. Maybe you should consider a blog about this other Hollywood giant.

  3. This was really interesting. I didn't know that science fiction hadn't done well before Star Wars. I thought it was really cool though how George Lucas pioneered new technologies for Star Wars that other sci fi films adopted. Do you know why he wound up changing the name to the catchier Star Wars? Did someone else suggest it like with War and Peace?
