The Happiest Day in History

At 9:34 Pm, on a Sunday night, August 12, 1945, a joyous occasion occurred. After years of fighting in the Pacific, with square-jawed Marines fighting and dying, moving Island to Island, removing the Japanese presence from these oppressed lands, peace was finally signed. They accepted the terms of defeat. Immediately, people were met in the streets with free beer, kissing, shouting, and cries of joy. Where ever one went they were met with mobs of people celebrating one of the most momentous occasions in history. A testament to the true proof of American grit, integrity, will, spirit, and force was shown in the Pacific and their accomplishment was felt all the way back home everywhere.

The war was not technically over until 2 minutes later but it all mattered the same; the war was over and Americans were relieved that their greatest adversary had finally called it quits and they didn't. This post is dedicated to all the Marines who lost their lives so that these people were able to feel the joy they had on that day in history. Semper Fi

  1. I find it interesting how you chose to focus not on the war, but on the effects that victories had on the homefront
