Church Bombing

Throughout the year we have learned about the significance that religion has on the people and government. The attack on Sri Lanka an Island country in the Indian Ocean this easter proves that. These attacks affected three cities Negombo. Colombo, Batticaloa in which the government says that it was an attack by a radical Islamic Group with the help of an international terrorist organization. Despite having a warning 10 days prior to the bombing of the churches and hotels no actions were taken to protect the people. The government did take action afterward by implementing a curfew in Colombo, as well as blocking social media to prevent spreading misinformation. This attack nearly killed 300 people and around 500 were injured. 24 people have been arrested for this crime of hate however they haven't found any concrete information. Both the Prime Minister and the president say they weren't informed of this which makes it even more intriguing to investigate as well as to attack the government's intelligence. Because of these two powers there has been confusion and fight over who has the real power which has also made it difficult to act on this matter. These attacks are believed to have been in part by ISIS but information on this isn't concrete.

  1. This was an interesting article. I did not know very much about these bombings or how the governments reacted to them. It is interesting that they claimed that they had no warning when it was noted that they were warned 10 days before.

  2. Interesting article. Why didn't the government take the warnings seriously? Were the threats merely ignored or was there a legitimate reason that they chose to ignore these warnings. furthermore it is sad to see that they haven't found any real concrete information on who directly did the bombing despite the amount of international support and intensive investigation.
