Ladies and Gentlemen, We Got Him

In 2003, The United States declared war on Iraq and the tyrannical dictatorship that ran Iraq and oppressed its people. Backed solely by Britain, along with the full support of the supreme court, Bush had convinced congress to send U.S troops to IRaq and begin operations.

A hopefull beginning was coupled with early victories in battles and skirmishes with Iraqi forces. We achieved nothing but support. We were initially success at this stage of the war. The might of the Iraqi army, while fair in size, was nothing compared to what the U.S and U.K sent.

Support wavered as the war progressed ever so slightly to the middle point. However, one event did serve to bolster the support for a while. This event being the capturing of the Tyrant Sadam Hussein.

A long-awaited event occurred as we caught the man who a generation before had considered him to be evil as worse than Hitler. Support was massive and this event marked the highpoint of the war.

Thing changed, however,

Things were never the same as they were when we were hunting this scum. Now we had to look after the country as they had no active system of Government running. We didn't know how to deal with this and the emerging rebel groups.

The success and support of the war were never the same. Its a shame really, if we just fixed Iraq right and prepared, maybe, it might have been more effective when controlling the situation.

  1. I found this post very interesting. I liked how it talked about how things changed after we caught him. How the only goal we had was to remove and capture him because he was a great evil in ours eyes but that we didn't really have a plan for after. It became out responsibility to look out for a country that was in shambles.

  2. I found it interesting when you mentioned that the people compared Hussein to Hitler. However, when we look back at what happened, after one horrible reign came to an end, another one began. Because terrorist were now free to operate in the Middle East, they rose to power. I wonder which outcome would be worst: if we hadn't captured Hussein and left a tyrant in power, or let the extreme hate towards the US manifest in to a terrorist group.
