Today we know the UFC as that company that has the crazy Irish man with a Whiskey company, a workaholic Russian who fights bears, a coked out light heavyweight god, and the company who promoted the goat Artem Lobov (don't @ me or we will fight on the side of the street).
The UFC once had humble beginnings though, as the first bout, set in 1993 had a rough start, but captured the attention of many, both a good and bad thing. After the first UFC event, the event garnered a lot of support from new fans, among them previous fans of boxing, Taekwando, jujitsu, kickboxing/ Muay-Thai, Sambo, as well as nearly all other forms of martial arts and combat sports. At the same time the company was met with the swift and near fatal ban in almost every state, with the first being infamously New York.
Over the next 25 years the UFC would switch hands, expand and contract, experience glimpses of glory and failure. Finally, since the late 2000's, the UFC has found its target demographic and audience as well as being allowed and legal in every state and country. Years of fights, wars, blood matches, grudges, and beefs have propelled the sport to new stardom.
Its a shame that the casual fight fan, or even average person will only ever know of the UFC for Conor Mcgreggor and the shenanigans that souround his name and the company from 2017-2019. Most people will never see the UFC for what it really is, a gem among sports.
Only a true fight fan will understand the gravity and emotion of these pictures.
