Steve Jobs

Early Life
Steven Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco California and was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs. From a young age, Steve enjoyed fixing things like cars and was very good with his hands. He was very interested in electronics like radios, televisions, and stereos. His family moved to Mountain View in 1961 and began to swim competitively on a team. However, he preferred doing things himself and didn't like other team sports. He did enroll in the Hewlett-Packard Explorer Club though, and further explored his love for computers and electronics. One time, Jobs was attending a lecture by William Hewlett, the president of the club. Jobs boldly asked Hewlett if he could have some parts for a project he was working on and being so impressed with the teen, Hewlett gave young Steve Jobs the parts and offered him an internship at Hewlett-Packard.

Beginnings of Apple
After dropping out of Reed College in Portland Oregon, he travelled to India to study eastern religions, and when he returned, he joined the Homebrew Computer Club. In the club, he met future business partner Steve Wozniak, who was working on building a smaller computer. Jobs immediately became interested in this and together, they created Apple, which was named to remember how much Jobs enjoyed picking apples over one summer. Their initial goal was to create a personalized computer; one that the common person could purchase and take home.

Ups and Downs
While sales in 1978 to 1980 jumped from 7.8 million to 117 million, Wozniak and Jobs began to drift apart and disagree. In 1983, Wozniak left Apple and Jobs hired John Scully to be the president of Apple. This backfired however, and in 1985 after a disagreement between Scully and Jobs, and Jobs left to form another company called NeXT. Apple steadily increased throughout the rest of the 1980's but suffered a major drop during the mid 1990s, being out performed by Microsoft. Desperately trying to stay afloat, Apple reached out to Jobs to come back to save the company, which is exactly what he did. After a deal with Microsoft and creating the revolutionary iMac, Apple was back on its feet.

Unfortunately, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, Jobs died on October 5, 2011. He legacy affects hundreds of millions of people world wide and, not to exaggerate, life would be impossible to imagine without Apple and Steve Jobs.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post, as I am very interested in technology and a fan of Apple. I liked how you organized your post into sections, emphasizing the key parts of Jobs’s life. I would also like to mention that besides Apple and NeXT, Steve Jobs also founded Pixar, which was initially named The Graphics Group. When Pixar was acquired by Disney, Jobs, who was the chairman and a majority shareholder, joined Disney’s board of directors.
