Is Elvis Still Alive?

At some point in the year, Elvis was noted in a documentary for his important contributions to and stature in the music industry.  While those masterpieces (I should note many were covers of songs by black musicians) from Jailhouse Rock to Can't Help Falling in Love may account for the majority of his lasting legacy, there was a greater controversy that perhaps solidified the King of Rock as an icon in the minds of even youth today: did Elvis die?
That's a bit misleading: it's recognized that Elvis is unlikely to still be alive today, given his birth happened in 1935.  However, his sudden passing at 42 after a concert shocked many fans globally.  And so began the conspiracy theories.  Some claimed that Mr. Presley was a member of the mafia, and in an attempt to escape the dangerous and unpleasant organization, he resorted to faking his own death.  After one Elvis biographer sorted through endless FBI documents, she concluded that Elvis was part of the American witness protection program.  And she, just as many other skeptics, agree that it is very possible that he is dead today; however, he was not as of August 16, 1977, as official records pronounce.
But where's the proof?  Some note that Elvis' real middle name was misspelled on his tombstone, incorrectly written as Aaron rather than Aron—others counter that he changed the spelling later in life.  Another clue to his survival: his own wife slipped up in an interview with Oprah, referring to something Presley had said "the other day" before correcting herself and explaining she had meant Oprah rather than Presley.  On top of all that, numerous Americans have claimed to have spotted Elvis themselves over the last forty years.  An Elvis Sighting Society even formed.
It should be said that only 4% of Americans believe that Elvis did not, in fact, die that fateful August night.  His biographer holds staunch in her position, emphasizing that she was not a fan herself and has based her entire research on facts.  I guess it's up to you to decide.  All we know is that Elvis has left the building and cannot be reached for further comment.

  1. I find this very interesting. Specially how he was part of the witness protection program. Also what did they say was the reason he died?

  2. This is some very interesting evidence and reasoning for why Elvis may be alive. Does it say how Elvis got mixed up in the mafia?

  3. I thought this post was really interesting and funny. But how did the biographer get FBI documents?
