Doping in Sports

With the suspension of UFC star, DJ Dillashaw, who was merely a month ago considered to be the greatest Bantamweight of all time, many are focusing on the topic of steroids and illegal substances in sports once again in sports.

Doping in sports became a problem as soon as it was applied to the sport, initially being very underground, but becoming very apparent after a while. Every well-renowned company in sports has banned the use of PED in their sport. Soccer, BasketBall, Football, Boxing, etc have all banned doping and have followed the finding of banned substances with severe unremorseful action and consequence.
The use of substances and the morals of why we should not dope is clear.

It is a completely unfair advantage in a sport where physical prowess is used to overpower an opposition in one way or another. However, in a sport where violence or clashes of athleticism isn't as prevalent or utilized, should doping be regarded as less of a crime? Some Olympic events regarding pure strength, athletic appearance, or even some mental ability are argued to have less of a penalty with the use of illegal substances.

In a sport like Boxing, Wrestling, MMA, or Traditional Martial Arts, steroids are not viewed lightly due to the nature of the bout; in sports like Hockey, Lacrosse, Football, or Rugby, physical strength and athletic power is needed to compete and Steroids unfairly aid in this endeavor, and Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball would all have their uses for the drug.

  1. This is very unfortunate that doping happens in sports as it can ruin someones career. Such as Cody Garbrandt will most for sure ruin his career since he used steroids before his fight.
